Making
Waves
Making Waves is owned by Megan Mathers, a Speech Pathologist on Brisbane’s Northside with a wide range of experience helping adult clients.
Megan graduated from the University of Queensland (UQ) in 2005 with a Bachelor of Speech Pathology. Since graduating she has worked across hospitals, rehabilitation services, community settings, and aged care, in both the public and private systems.
Megan is a Certified Practising Speech Pathologist, providing a home visiting service to ADULT clients on Brisbane’s Northside.
Over the years, Megan has gained invaluable experience working with hundreds of adult clients, helping them work toward their communication or swallowing goals.
Megan has a particular interest in helping adults who are needing communication and/or swallowing support due to: general aging, chronic or complex medical factors, or neurological conditions such as stroke, dementia, or Parkinson’s Disease. Accent Modification is another area of interest, and sessions for this are also available through Making Waves.
At Making Waves, Megan treats her clients with kindness and compassion, and makes sure sessions are practical and personalised.
Adult Speech Pathology
Through assessment and treatment, adult speech pathology services may help to improve an individual’s quality of life.
Megan offers a range of assessments and treatments for adults needing support with:
Language (Understanding and Expression)
Speech (including Accent Modification)
Literacy (Reading and Writing)
Social Skills
Voice projection related to some health conditions (enquire for more info)
Swallowing
Megan has been helping adults since graduating as a Speech Pathologist 18 years ago. She uses a wide variety of strategies and resources that may help to improve the effectiveness of communication and / or the safety and comfort of swallowing.

Megan can assess and treat clients who are presenting with:

Megan is able to help with improving swallowing comfort and safety through education, strategies, exercises, and diet and fluid texture / consistency recommendations.
Megan is able to support individuals experiencing the following types of concerns:
Coughing / choking with eating and drinking
Discomfort with eating and drinking
Taking a long time to have meals / drinks
Needing to modify their foods
Changes to voice (wet voice) when eating / drinking
Regular chest infections (as a result of food/drink entering airway)
Trouble chewing hard foods or refusing to eat certain textures of food
Sensation of food getting stuck in throat
